10-Cent Wings for the New Yorker

There are not too many places on Earth where you can get Buffalo wings for just 10-cents a piece, but you can get them right here in New York City. Even when you go to a place offering all-you-can-eat Buffalo wings, you still can’t get the same value of a 10-cent wing.

Think about it. The cheapest all-you-can-eat buffalo wing special you can get in New York City is probably no lower than $10. So if you eat 100 wings, each wing will cost you 10-cents. But who eat 100 wings? I’ve been to a lot of buffalo wing restaurants and bars, and they have records posted on their walls. I haven’t seen anything higher than 83 wings. I would say the average person does not eat more than 25-30 wings…on a good day! As you can see, the value of that $10 wing buffet significantly falls off when your drop down to 30 or 25 wings.

So if you want to know where you can get the best cluck for your buck, here are a couple of places in Manhattan that offer up the 10-cent wing to the chicken lover in all of us.

Croxley Ales

28 Avenue B, Lower East Side, New York

On Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm to 1am, you can get all the 10-cent wings you want from this little spot on Avenue B. The crowd is a collection of young professionals looking for a good time after work with their friends. With a multitude of television screens throughout the bar, they always have something on TV that’s worth watching. Whether it is Monday Night Football or another rendition of the Knicks and Yankees, Croxley Ales is always bumping with avid sports fans. But the real delight occurs around dinner tables, where large groups pick at big orders of wings and fries in an almost Italian-style of dining. The 10-cent wings are only available on Mondays and Wednesdays. You can get 20-cent wings on Saturdays and Sundays as well. To go along with your wings, they serve up $4 pints Croxley Blonde or any other specialty beer is $4 as well.

Lions Head Tavern

995 Amsterdam Avenue, Upper West Side, New York

Come in on Mondays for the 10-cent wing fiasco of your life. Their wings are some of tastiest ones you will find in New York City, and at 10 cents, they are worth every penny…and then some! And if you want some sides to go with your wings, the Lion’s Head is known for being valuably cheap. The menu is loaded with inexpensive sides and other dishes for those who dare not try the 10-cent wings. There are also plenty of TV’s here for watching football games. During happy hour, the specials are priced to make sure you can’t walk out of the building; and that tends to be the case for many of the college locals. So if you are looking for a good old-fashioned time, full of food, fun and fermented beverages, then the Lion’s Head is your spot.

Croxley Ales is not a favorite of mine. It's a pretty generic sports bar with too many TVs and, I don't know, I don't like the place. Good wings though, especially for ten cents (and a lonnng wait).

Lion's Head Tavern is also a sports bar, but that's a fun place. Great wings too. Great prices on beers. Fun atmosphere. They used to have an awesome all-you-can-drink deal on Saturday afternoon, now it's still pretty great with a $1 draft deal (from 12-5pm). Highly recommended.
